Dublin Car Rental - Auckland bishop, the Development of a New Town,


The town expanded quickly during the industrial revolution due to nearby coal mining. This area was historically the hunting grounds for the Bishop of Durham and eventually became the Bishop's residence. Auckland is market town located in the North east of England in County Durham, bishop.

To re-establish the town's economy regeneration plan and Bishop Auckland Town Center forum has been developed. With the decline of the coalfields the town's economy has turned to manufacturing and retail. The decline of the coal mines is mainly responsible for the towns decline in other areas.

By Lewis Carroll, a Legend of Scotland, there are many historic buildings on the grounds and this castle was the setting for the story. Over 800 acres of parklands surround the castle which is open to the public. This castle was the residence of the Bishop of Durham. One of the town's main attractions is Auckland castle.

This roman fort has an excellent example of a Roman military bath house and it is one of the best preserved. The Roman Road passed right through the middle of town and there is a nearby Roman fort in Binchester to provide protection for those travelers on the road.

The Escomb Saxon church is an Anglo Saxon church built in 680. Tourist center and public library, , café theatre, this building was completely restored in the 1990s and contains an art gallery. The town hall was built in a Gothic Style during the Victorian era.

This church was built in the 13th century by Augustine monks. The largest church in County Durham is nearby called St Andree's church. The viaduct no longer carries the trains but has been converted for road traffic. Auckland castle and the Town Hall, you can see beautiful surrounding scenery that includes Bishop's Park. The Newton Cap viaduct is a railway viaduct that crosses the Wear River.
