Cheap Airfare To Portland - 2010 South Africa Tour of the West Indies - Fifth ODI Review
South Africa was aiming to close out the one-day series in high style. The Windies were just hoping to avoid an embarrassing whitewash on home soil. While the hosts failed to win any of the internationals against the Proteas in 2010, south Africa had an unassailable 4-0 lead in the five-match series. The West Indies and South Africa faced off in a match that was of academic value in terms of the series result.
Had his vigil ended by the slow left arm spin of van der Merwe, with 17 off 47 balls, darren Bravo. A pedestrian 51-run partnership between Darren Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul took the Windies to 96 in the 25th over. But Gayle was the next to go after scoring only 12 off 19 balls, chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul took the score to 45. Richards was the first out - to a delivery by Lonwabo Tsotsobe, after scoring 19 runs off 19 balls. The openers started cautiously, on a two-paced Queen's Park Oval surface in Trinidad. With Chris Gayle and Dale Richards opening the innings once more, the home side won the toss and batted first.
Lonwabo Tsotsobe was the best South African bowler with 2/31 after seven overs. After the team scored only 161 in the 40th over, kieron Pollard (25 off 19 balls) and Darren Sammy (19 off 8 balls) helped the West Indies to post 252/6, narsingh Deonarine (53 off 53 balls). The West Indies need some impetus in their innings, when Dwayne Bravo departed for 26.
South Africa lost Mark Boucher (6) and JP Duminy (51) to reach 211/6 in the 44th over, after Jacques Kallis fell victim to Gayle for the second time in the series, however. South Africa progressed comfortably to reach 163/3 in the 31st over, after losing AB de Villiers for 13. Hashim Amla (45) departed via the run out route, thirty-six runs later. Dismissing Smith for 12, dwayne Bravo earned the breakthrough for the home team. With a first-wicket partnership of 40 in 8.3 overs, the South Africans had a steady start.
Opening batsman Hashim Amla was the player of the series. Was the player of the match, for his 57 and 1/38, jacques Kallis. Dwayne Bravo (2/73) and Kieron Pollard (2/42) leaked some vital boundaries in the latter overs as the West Indies lost by just one wicket with two balls to spare. With Jerome Taylor being unable to bowl his final two overs because of injury, the West Indies failed to punish them, however. South Africa appeared to be on course for victory but made things difficult for themselves in the latter stages.
